The club region VP does a lot of rallying here in the northeast, and
said word among that crowd is that WRX trannies are getting chewed up
left and right on roadcars that are driven hard.
According to the gravevine, rallying or just driven mostly on dirt
roads, they seem to do just fine, even if driven hard. The popular
theory is the transmission can't take the torque 'shock' from hard
pavement driving; on dirt, there's no real shock to the transmission,
since no individual wheel has much traction. Call it 'traction
contrast' if you want, perhaps.
Bob, Scott- you guys hearing similar things in your rallying circles?
