NG vs 20V

This is an interesting choice to make! Here's my perspective:
I own a 90 Coupe quattro with the 7a 20v. It's a good motor if you are
above about 3700 rpm but that's pretty much where the action happens. Below
that, the car is uninspiring to drive.
My roommate has an 85 4kq with an NG bottom end and JT head with an NG cam.
So it's high compression, 2.3L, and small valve. The car is a bit lighter
than the CQ but it makes great power throughout the revs...up until about
4500 rpm. Driven properly it's just as quick as the CQ and easier to drive
around town. It does lack the top end of the 20v, for sure. Also the gas
mileage is great thanks to the small ports/high compression/lighter weight.
I hope this helps you with the decision! I think in your case I would do
the 10v N/A route, I think it would make a very nice daily driven motor!
