bumped off the list (& Lenses!)

Experience, yes.  I've personally administered a number of lists over the
years, and I totally forgot about this slant on the issue until just now.

Some of my subscribers would find themselves not receiving posts, or
unsubscribed because they were subscribed to the digest version...

... AND their mail server was set to reject messages over a certain size!
The list server would assume that the address was bogus, and would
unsubscribe it.

The only thing that I could do as list administrator was to set the list to
reject messages over a certain size (to filter out messages like a reply to
a digest that included the entire digest in the message), and set the digest
version to go out at a smaller size.

The only other thing that I can think of were a few subscribers whose mail
servers identified digests as bulk mail and rejected it, causing the list
server to unsubscribe the affected address.  This was a rare occurrence as I
remember it.
