There was a thread recently about Scooby tranny's.
Yes they are more fragile than Gen I, II and maybe even later gen Quattros.
The reigning theory is that it has more to do with driving style than with
surface friction.
It seems the box is particularly fragile to hyper agressive shifting.
Since we're all Audi people we can't imagine moving a gear shift fast
enough to screw with synchros (har har), but it's very possible in the Suby
world.
The WRX tranny seems to have fragile synchros and if you have a lot of
torque before the gear is fully engaged then you can fracture the gear
itself.
The current COBB tuning uber-WRX has something like 500hp running through a
bone stock tranny.
But they only get on the boost after the gear is fully engaged.
