Finally got the parts needed to do a timing belt/ water pump/ idler/ thermo=
swap. I also was doing a passenger side axle swap and new suspension part=
s=2E
First thing - the new axle that I ordered was for the driver side. The con=
trol arm bushings were the wrong size. And I had a headache out of this wo=
rld.
Ended up swapping the CV joints on the new wrong axle with the ones on the =
crippled axle. 4 hours later I had an installed axle that works. phewwww.=
Control arm bushings were in great shape so those were not replaced. Tie=
rod ends also were in great shape - no need to replace. Due to my own err=
or, I forgot to urder strut mounts but they WILL be ordered tonight.
Suspension is on hold till those parts come in. Move on to the engine bay.=
.=2E..
Pretty much uneventful. For a first time round under the hood of this car,=
I found the timimg belt procedure to less stressful than I had imagined it=
would be. No problems whatsoever - and I really need to thank everyone on=
the list. While in there I replaced the thermostat - so now that it is in=
the 60's I have heat! woo hoooo. The thermostat was the wierdest looking=
part I think I have ever seen come out of any car. I decided it must be t=
he original with 135,000 miles on it. It had simply fallen apart in the ho=
using - go figure.
I also decided to tackle the ISV valve - cover as much ground as possible w=
ith the nose off the car. I took it off and cleaned it with carb cleaner a=
nd lightly sprayed it with WD-40. When repairs were done and the entire ca=
r was back together, I reached in and gingerly ignited the 5 cylinders - hi=
gh idle - STILL. I disconnected the ISV and the idle came down to normal. =
I plugged it back in - idled normal. Drove it around the block a few time=
s=2E Idled normal. Shut it off. Wait 5 minutes - restart - sputter aroun=
d 300 RPM and dies. Immediately restart and it sputters a second at 300 RP=
M and then resumes 1000 RPM idle. Runs great.
Any suggestions?
Ben
