Gents:
The linkage on the 5ktq/4kq transmission uses large swinging arcs. With the advent of the procon 10, that became mucho less travel in the late 200tq's (to accomodate the P10 bracketry). After reading thru Nates experience, I'm not sure I want to tackle the 90q conversion to the 016, but I'd bet life would have been better Nate, had you the 200tq pieces parts in addition to what you had from the 5ktq. The actuation *at* the transmission hasn't changed thru 01E (including the SMS rally 6spd). Getting there is the fun part as Nate found out. There are simpler ways, but what you did works... I've seen some really simple ways, including the deletion of that ball and socket crap.

Also, input shafts can be accomodated thru a variety of avenues, again from the audi parts bin. ANY I5 flywheel will bolt up to ANY I5 motor. Audi also has a plethora of pilot bearings as well.

With regard to Martins comments:
A 90 driveshaft needs to be swapped for the 4kq driveshaft to make 016 work in a 90q (see Nates conversion notes). I didn't mention the urq, cuz stateside there are no torsen factory urq's, interesting tidbit tho. I will say this driveshaft length problem also applies to the 200tq>016 swap.

WRT front flanges, those can be changed out, again from the bin, but most change the driveshafts (as well as bearings and hubs), also from the bin. Good catch on the 4.11 rear diff, both the 80/90 and the 4kq carry 4.11.

Interestingly, audi made several revisions to the rods and ball/socket over the years to "improve" feel. I think the problem wasn't addressed in those revisions, the problem was the internals of the forks/travel inside the trans, and it's actuation via ball/socket/rod.

Luckily per the original poster question on type 44 models, this torsen to locker swap is mucho simpler.
