The air filter being that dirty sounds to me like it has been in there for a
while. I pulled my GT's filter when I bought it and it was almost dripping.
I was then convinced that I had seen my first 100k filter. I think this
just happens due to the high PITA factor for the air filter, that is until
you learn how to disjoint your thumb:-) I also did the fuel pump/filters
yesterday and found enough dirt to explain the pump seizing.

Subject: Air filter / Fuel question (87 4kq)
I finally replaced the Air filter in my car, should have done it when I
bought it. Anyway, it was filthy, dirty, couldnt see light through it.
I noticed that the back part of filter was oil soaked, from the EGR
stuff? I also noticed that there was some gas/oil stuff in the middle
of the filter also. I dont' know what that was from, im not sure on age
of filter. Any ideas?
I also notice when I took the boot off, the area before the valve, the
air flow valve area, had a medium coat of fuel/fuel-oil clinging to the
sides. Is this normal?
This is the same car that I have had issues with it idling poorly when
warmed up, but the car started and ran very well when cold. Could this
be "spare" fuel sitting in this area, causing my accel problem when
warmed up?
Thanks everyone,
