Well fellow listers,
As some of you may remember I purchased a 90Q to fix up for my nephew as a
high school graduation present. I keep hitting more things that really need
to be addressed and am ready to give up and part this thing out. I still
don't even have the darn title yet!
Anyway - what is to me a bit of a show stopper is now that I finally have
the car running I took it for a spin up and down the street - no problems
mechanically. So, I go change the diff, trans, and brake fluids and go to
lube the ujoint only to find the support bearing shot - I'm sure it would
have been obvious once I drove the car more than 30mph anyway - at least I
haven't registered and insured it yet.
So, what might my options be - I've seen posts re some Merc bearings being
used but I don't have the equipment to get the bearing off and on I don't
think - I can get the drive shaft out I think, though. Are rebuilt drive
shafts expensive? Maybe I should take the drive shaft out and let it be a
front wheel drive car?
FYI, it still needs a new dashboard (all cracked up), fan switch, and then
prolly just a tbelt change to make it quite nice. Headliner is shot but I
don't believe a 17-18 year old should care much.
Any ideas re the bearing would be great or any other words of wisdom (like
run and hide before it eats more money) would also be appreciated.
Yours in Audidom
Randy..
