dont want to start anything bad here, but my boss said years ago in the 4k/5k ,they used to use a 1/2 can of coke, not pepsi, coke, and the owner of the local audi dealer told him this !!

I have a 91 80Q w/ 208k on it and when I start it up cold the lifters TAP
VERY LOUDLY until the engine reaches near operating temperature, it
comes/goes away/comes/goes away until op temp is reached, regardless of
revs. usually if I rev it to 2k and let go it'll disappear for a few seconds
then come back.

I had read that specific oil filters actually decrease the tap because they
have some valve in them that doesn't all ALL of the oil back in the pan
after the engine's turned off?

I'm using 10w-30 and a basic fram filter as of now, I've heard I should
switch to a MANN/Purolator and 10w-40 oil from now on?

Am I causing damage letting it tap? Anything I can put in the crankcase
just before an oil change to clean those lifters up?
