85 4000 Quattro chinese box problem (AKA how to open a hood without a release)

A great thanks is in order to an overwhelming number of people here!
Tom B especially, Randy, Cade, lots of people gave me great info and I was
treated with a great day today.   The hood was popped and the latching pegs
removed in no time.  With access to the fluids, I treated her to an oil
change and some fresh washer fluid.

Then I went to the auto parts store to get hood pins.  I should have done
this first.  Unfortunately, the wind was also high because of the weather.
I had tied down the hood but apparently not enough.  It flew up while I was
driving and bent in half, smacking the windshield.  At least the glass
didn't break.  So now I need a hood because of a broken hood release.
I must be accident prone or something!!
