rs6 drive

i had my 1st opporunity to pilot an rs6 yeaterday. it is currently the only
one in the country and is doing the rounds being used as a media test/drive
car.

although my time in it was short, the following is apparent:

1) the v8 is surperb.

2) the sound is awesome - makes you giggle like a kid.

3) the transmission is better than the standard s6 or s8, particularly in sport
mode. downshift is decisive with barely a pause.

4) it drives more like an s8 than an s6 which is a good thing. by this i mean
that the steering has more feel, the car feels lighter, turn-in is better and
damping good. the comment was made in a article in one of the local magazines
by a journo i respect that the rs6 had an s8 chassis with a little more negative
camber on the front (1 degree). based on my drive, it seems like he might be
right.

5) brakes are very very good. again i think i would prefer feel of the brembos
on the latest s8, but ultimate stopping power would have to be with the rs6.
beter than the overassisted brakes of the s6 without a doubt. slight question
mark on abs calabration for nz roads.

6) the roll leveling seems to work well with nicely surpressed roll on cornering.

overall a car dominated by the simply surperb engine, but with nice chassis
feel and not as much of a "blunt instrument" as i'd expected.

those who purchase this car (not me) will have a fine audi. i might wait a
year or 2 before picking up mine.
