Copper crush washers - was Radiator Temp Sensor

In the good ole days back when I was a kid, and about 100 miles from the
closest Motorcycle shop, we would anneal a solid copper washer with a
torch. First clean it up, then heat it until it was glowing red, then
let it cool. According to a book I was using at the time this was the
way to make them soft enough to crush again.
