There was something in the papers last year or the year before where a car
renter was surcharged for speeding by the car rental company because the
navigation system reported he had exceeded the speed limit. I believe the guy
fought the surcharge but I don't remember what the outcome of that piece of
litigation.

My own feelings on the issue are mixed. On the one hand I can see the value in
nailing jerks like the one in the MA case, but on the other hand I can see
the insurance companies and police using it to nail you every time you go 5
miles over the limit no matter what the circumstances. Definitely big brother
is creeping into the passenger seat with us.

Hmm, since our old Audis don't have this telemetry  maybe they'll start
appreciating in value since you can't track them.
