Coolant in contact with the extended center pin, which sticks
further into the coolant tank in the radiator.

How about teflon pipe tape? It's part of what it's meant for, and
it should be able to handle the temp. Check the package to be
sure. You'd want to verify it's ability to handle temps of 300 degrees
Fahrenheit, JUST to be certain.

As I recall, (too bad, I was just under the car earlier) there were two
wires that lead from the sensor, one of which is the ground. Don't
forget,
the radiator is mounted on rubber isolators. So, it's essentially
ungrounded
anyway.
