CODE 4433 was identified by a few peaple as the fuel pump relay.
Probably is correct, but in my case it simply was an AFU indicator -
that inputs to the relay were all fould up. The fuel pump relay
diagnosis did guide me to look futher.

My findings: Two or three of the sensor connectors located on the
firewall behind the head were knocked loose. These were for the
reference, speed and knock sensor. They got dislodged during the
accident. Upon straightening out the bracket that holds them in and
plugging them back in, the engine started and ran fine.

I drove the car around a little sans intercooler and oil cooler - just
used some creative piping to bypass them for now. I decided to install
the original K26 back(talk about a Chinese box - jeeese!) I am mulling
over puttng the hybrid T03/k26 turbo into the '91 200 20V as it has
more headroom than the stock K24 yet still spools up quickly.

Although it is tempting to try to put it all back together, the
reworked engine is destined to be transplanted in an almost idential
wagon 1 year newer. All of the best goodies will be put on the newer
car. Stay tuned for progress in about a months time. I will be
contemplating keeping this car as my to nice to be a "beater" or
possibly selling it.

Looking for intercooler options: I have located a single pass from a
200 20V, but if anyone has something better for under $200 I'd be
interested.

Cheers!

Ben

Subject: Code 4433 - MC-1 no start

[I'm trying to get the engine started after some repairs to some pieces
that were damaged in the accident a few months ago. The engine did not
start after cranking and I got the ECU to spit out code 4433.

The only sensors/connectors I know I don't have connected are 1) the
intake air sensor which mounts in the intercooler 2) the fuel recovery
carbon canister solenoid valve.

I did not find code 4433 listed in the Audi Ignition service manual I
have for 5000 turbo/quattro.

It may be noteworthy that I did not hear the fuel pump get triggered
during the cranking cycle. It did run fuel pump as if it were doing
output test no. 1 when I initiated the input code sequence - of course,
this was a no start condition, so that may be exactly how it is
supposed to work.

Also, some wires needed to be spliced in the harness near the fuel
distributor, but I am pretty sure I got them right, but there were some
duplicate blue/black wires that I could have mixed up. Can't think of
anything else I may have missed.

Anyway, CODE 4433 - anyone have a description or any other information
that may help.

Hoping I can get this engine running soon so I can get the car out of
my garage and get ready to transplant into another car.

TIA,

Ben]
