A new oil filter thread...

Hopefully this thread won't digress into the old Fram vs. Mann oil filter
discussion...

Anyway, I "maintain" a fleet of about 10 Audi/VW's for family & friends.  I
order Mann oil filters by the case, and except for my V8, they all use the
same filter.

Or so I thought.

For giggles I looked up the part numbers on the FA and found that the
WE/KX/7A engines suggest filter 056 115 561 G.  NG, MC and similar varieties
suggest 035 115 561.  VW's like the ABA recommend 034 115 561 A.  All are
physically interchangeable.  All filter oil.  No engines have grenaded. (OK
maybe one, but you can't blame that one wastegate failure on the wrong oil
filter...)

So... anyone know what's the difference is (if there is one) besides price?
