Exhaust studs - torque setting?

I might be off target here, but I always thought that you drive the EM studs
hand tight, manking sure it went in the thread as deep it should, then apply
the nut torque.

What makes me think it's the correct assumption is what you said. "...can't
find it anywhere",  me neither.
