Smell of Gasoline ? P.S. ***

Hi Fay;

You've got a fuel leak, and it's a fairly large one if you are noticing it
as extra fuel usage.

The most likely culprits are:

1. leaking fuel line (probably the high pressure line from the pump if you
are using extra fuel)
2. Leaking fuel tank (probably at the tank seam halfway up the tank - the
flange catches dirt, water, road salt, etc. and rusts through. The tank seam
is hard to inspect all the way around, but the tank will be wet below the
leak when you fill it up. The leak will stop when the tank gets below 1/2
full).

Check the fuel tank and clean off the seam flange while you are in there. If
the tank is OK, put the rear end (of the car) up on ramps, idle the engine,
and thoroughly inspect the fuel lines for leaks (Note: use a fluorescent
work light for this - igniting the leak with a drop light while under the
car is excitement you don't need).

P.S.

The gasoline is equally strong on both sides in the back, and I seem to be
using an extrodinary amount of gas !

Cheers,

Fay
