>Fuel lines to and from the tank run down that side of the car, Fay. Your odor could be coming from a rusted out fuel line at one of the points it is anchored to the car. The rubber pads that hold the lines in place commonly collect salt and dirt and the lines will rust through and leak at that point.
Do you need to pull the full take to see that? He went under the car with a bright light and tipped the back end up on each side.
Maybe he should have tipped the front end up . . . . .

>But your odor and accelerated fuel consumption could be a result of a bad Oxygen sensor. A failed O2 sensor can make the exhaust smell of fuel because it usually causes the engine to run extra rich.
Well, now that is interesting because I have been telling him I thought I needed one of those because my car hesitates upon pickup from a dead stop. Maybe I should start there . . . .
ThanX I will just have to see whether I can buy one. I know that people had talked about universal O2Sensors.
Cheers,
