One of the *best* bang-4-the-buck modification you can make to any
turbocharged car is exhaust.
I am lucky enough to live in the Land Of No Vehicle Inspection. So, when I
discovered that my cat had a hole in it, I contacted my local
recently-discovered mechanic (Mike at Winning Formula, Louisville,
KY...great guy, serious enthusiast...FA cars in the shop) and asked him how
much to bend me a 2 1/2 inch pipe straight from the downpipe to the rear.
$175 including welgin it to my new stainless DTM muffler.
That, and my $35 stiffer wastegate spring is on the way. I'll be doing the
ECU hack, the spring, and the exhaust within the next couple of weeks...will
report on the results.
By the way, thanks so much to all the folks here who helped me get my car
back into running order. I just bought it a couple of months ago, and a
radiator (2, actually, first replacement one leaked), hoses, 2 brake
calipers, lines, pads, rotors, WOT switch, CSV, idle stabilizer, plugs,
wires, cap, hall-sender fix, oil cooler and 2 lines, A4 wheels, and 4 tires
later, I'm almost there!
