I'll put in my usually strong opinion(IMUSO?)...if this post is regarding
swapping in a 7A 20v motor or the 12v V6...I'd say you're wasting your time
with either. The purpose of an engine swap is to end up with significantly
more power, I wouldn't catagorize either of the above as a significant power
increase.
I own a manual '94 90 quattro with Sport package, the car is anemic, I
recently got rid of an old beat up 4kq that was much more fun to drive.
Ironically, the factory installed some kind of restrictor to dumb down the
throttle response. Don't get me wrong, I like the car, and its an Audi, but
I can't help but feel that they engineered the car for a 32 year old woman -
the engine is no exception.
My recommendation is if you're looking for more power, especially in a 90, do
a 10v or 20v turbo conversion, the torque alone makes either a much more
hearty performance improvement over the weasy NA motors. If you're scared of
turbos, then you probably aren't a good candidate for engine swaps in
general.
If you think the 12v 90 is a strong motor, then maybe you've acclimated to a
lower standard, or maybe I'm spoiled with my 80tq, but whatever the case, the
factory put a 20v 7a and a 12v V6 in the 90 chassis so it doesn't make much
sense to try to do a swap the factory already did.
