Valve stem seals

Speaking of which, anyone had any luck with the snake oils that
supposedly swell or soften the valve stem seals? I had good luck many
moons ago with Marvel Mystery oil on my old Cutlass "crop duster".
Worked for about a year, then started smoking again. Put coker "caps"
(don't know the real name) over the valve springs and the problem went
away for good.
V8Q #2 is a bit of a blue smoker, I have already bought all the parts for
seal replacement, but have been hard pressed to find time to do the job.
Hoping to find an interim solution to oil burning that will last long
enough to give me time to change the flywheel in V8Q #1, blower motor in
200TQA, and brake booster in the 5KS.....I must have a screw loose....oh
yeah, I do, it's the hex in the 5K's mirror, gotta remember that one
tomorrow.. ;-)
