Ron,

Interesting experiment.

Please tell us more about your experimental conditions. What modifications
exist on your 87 5ksq? Where do you live? What type of driving was
covered during the use of each tank?

95 octane based on (R+M)/2 rating is pretty high. Why would you need the
octane that high?

Wouldn't the best octane for fuel efficiency be the lowest you can run
without pre-spark detonation? Have you ever had a problem with detonation?
If not, I would run lower octane for fuel economy, not higher.

Please explain the theory you are testing with your experiment. I do not
mean simply that your theory is "higher octane is better" but rather why do
you think higher octane is better from an internal combustion perspective.

Are you running really high boost that is prone to detonation or something?
If you are pushing really high boost, then I can see the need for high
octane gasoline but otherwise I cannot imagine what good high octane does.

How would a higher octane gasoline could have any affect on you idle
smoothness? I am not saying that it doesn't, but rather I want to
understand why it would.

Eric
