coolant

Uhm, I may be wrong, but it seems to me that the 50/50 mix of coolant to
H2O is ideal not just for subzero temps, but also for very high temps.
I've got a coolant tester that reads the protection for both cold and
hot, and both ranges max out as the percentage of coolant reaches 50%.

If you don't believe me, this summer, drain and flush your system and
then put in ONLY water. Your engine temps will NOT stay within the norm.
I'm pretty sure the best mix, hot or cold, is 50/50.
