Similar thing happened here - Daytona bike week.

Local HD dealer is across from a city park which has been used every year
during bike week as festival/parking/vendor booths, etc. Due to the
standard fiscal mismanagement of the Banana Republic of Daytona Beach, the
city coffers were (as usual) bare, so they figured they could hose the HD
dealer for some huge amount to use their park again this year. The number I
heard was about $500,000 for a week's rent! (but that may not be accurate).

Result was the guy, who used to be a *very* successful big three car
dealer, went and BOUGHT 15 acres six miles out of town for less than the
one week's rent for this year on the park, and consequently his very well
attended events won't be bringing ANY more money to the city of Daytona
Beach, next year or any other year in the future.

Pure and simple greed on the part of the city, and they've now shot
themselves in the foot, for good. TOOOO BAAADDD!!!
