Re: Bently page D2-125-1 "Permanent Fault Memory, Erasing"
Attached for the archives is the correct procedure for doing this.
This is for the 'California Car" but from what I hear, all 88's were
California Cars.
I will post the Bentley book procedure with the corrections in parentheses
and (CAPITOL LETTERS)
The Bently sez....(on page D2-125-1)
1. Insert fuse in top of fuel pump relay with ignition off
2. Turn ignition on
3. Wait at least 4 seconds and remove fuse
4. Repeat this step three times until indicator flashes code 4443. ( LEAVE
THE IGNITION ON, WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS GOING THRU THE 'OUTPUT CHECKS' STAGE
AS OUTLINED ON PAGE D2-130-1, CODES 4341,4343,4431 AND THEN 4443 WILL FLASH,
REPEAT THE STEP ONE MORE TIME AND THEN........)
5. A signal should appear that comes on for 2.5 seconds, and goes off 2.5
seconds repeatedly.
6. Reinsert fuse in top of fuel pump relay
7. Wait at least 10 seconds then remove fuse
8. If the fault warning light now stays on (OFF) continuously, you have
successfully cleared the fault memory.
Jim
P.S. If you use a jumper wire instead of the fuse you can do the whole test
from the drivers seat and save a lot of sweat and problems...........
