86 4K Q - Turn Signals

On my 87 4KSCQ, I installed Hella 550 square driving lights (
http://www.autobarn.net/hel500higper2.html ) in the bumper location where
the stock turn signals were located. These driving lights are not exactly a
simple bolt-in, requires cutting away of a bit of the metal bumper behind
the plastic cover, removal of the glass light housing from the plastic
holder, and fabrication of a cover for the space formerly occupied by the
stock "fake driving light" reflector that are just outboard of the turn
signals. (I used the cut-up lenses of the turn signals to cover the
reflector hole). The Hellas are a tight fit here but results look very nice
located in the bumper and do absolute wonders for nitetime road visibility
at a fraction of the cost of euro replacement headlights. Downsides of
installation in this location is that the driving lights are rather
vunerable to damage if your were to nudge something with your bumper.
Removal of the stock turn signals required that I relocate the turn
signals to the corner lenses. This would best be done by locating a proper
bulb holder designed for a 2-element bulb (marker light and turn signal). I
was in a hurry to finished so I just modified the stock 1-element bulb
holder to work with a 2-element bulb. I soldered a wire to the brighter bulb
element terminal for the turn signal & drilled a hole through the plastic
holder to feed the soldered wire through so I could wire the second turn
signal element. The corner parking marker light function runs from the
dimmer element in the 2-element bulb through unmodified wiring, everythin
works fine. The turn signals are probably more visible that the stock
bumper
turn signals but not sure about legality if you live somewhere with tight
inspections.
