Looking for Audi Diesel.

George,
There was a 5000 Turbo Diesel imported between '83-'84. This would solve
the 'underpowered' problem of the NA diesel. I have seen at least 5 of these
in yards over the years, 2 with complete engines. The problem now is finding
ones that have their EMs on them since this is the one people scavenge to use
when turbocharging the stock 4kq engine.
I have been interested in bio-diesel/WVO cars for a while, and had
considered using a 5ktd engine in a 4kq for that purpose. It isn't the
greatest engine, but it looks like it could be improved a bit with a bigger
bore/better engine management combo.
The current TDI engine is a good choice because there are many more
performance upgrades available and there will probably be more to come. The
TDI engine is also shorter than the I5 engine, so a lot less weight will be
hanging over the front axle.

BTW, there is a TDI Golf running in the SCCA ProRally.
