Fine print no doubt says that liability in the case of a warranted repair
is limited to replacement of the filter except where such limitations are
illegal. If you're going to try it, start with the lawyer.  Let us know
how it goes.

BTW: How many times have I read "DON'T USE FRAM" onthis list?
