Don't use Fram ; HP line of filters

Many years ago I used to crew for a friend that had a H Prod SCCA racecar.
Was an Austin Healy
Bugeye Sprite with a 948cc engine.Had the remote filter setup on it and
would always use 20W50
motor oil. Over the years more and more trick items got added to the engine
always testing the limits
of self destruction. Some cooler days; on cold engine start up the oil
pressure would goe over 120psi;
so the owner decided to use a Fram HP series of oil filter. The standard
ones sometimes would
seep around the shell at startup. You could see the shell expand when the
motor was running cold.
With the HP the same thing occured; the shell would expand; but not explode.
I suggested that we
use the Mann filter that fits Volvo and a bunch of other fitments. Did that
and he couldn't believe
the difference in quality. You could squeeze the Fram filter and flex the
shell; but not with the Mann.
Weighed about 50% more. That was the last time we ever got concerned about
the filter. On cold
startup there was no visible swelling of the filter.
I wouldn't trust a Fram oil filter on a Briggs and Stratton and certainly
not on an Audi;

Fram makes a line of High Performance filters HP1, HP2 etc, there are LOTS
of race cars that use these. I have not idea how good they are but they cost
about $15 each from what I can remember. I am guessing they are of a higher
quality than the ones you can get in walmart.

Greetings Audinauts,
Let me be perfectly clear: Fram blows. Literally, apparently...
That said, I have always wondered why every Ferrari V12 I've seen in person=
or in pictures has two Fram orange filters mounted right up top where we c=
an see them. Apparently Fram is what Ferrari specified back in the days whe=
n old Enzo sat in the big chair. How was that possible, and what kind of me=
ss could a dry sump Daytona make when those top-mounted filters let go?
Not apologizing for Fram- I won't use them- but I do wonder about this. Mos=
t recently when perusing an issue of Classic and Sports Car featuring a Fer=
rari Daytona road test, and also an ur-q buyer's guide...
Is there some Fram jacket Ferrari put on a Mann filter due to some arcane s=
ponsorship deal (grin)?!
