MC turbo temp sender / gauge compatibility

Hello all...

Pondering all kinds of cooling subjects, I was wondering if it's possible to
use the coolant temperature sensor on an MC turbo engine to provide the
signal for a VDO water temp gauge (Vision series, marked in Fahrenheit or
one marked in Celcius from a VW cabriolet).  This would eliminate the need
to run another sender and would provide me with more accurate info than the
stock gauge that only has lines...

 I thought that someone in the group said that the sender output were the
same for both the stock gauge and the VDO gauge, but I could be confusing
that with the oil pressure senders on the other cars...It'd be simple enough
to try, but I thought I'd ask...

Along the same lines, if this isn't possible, where would be a good place to
add the appropriate water temp sender on that engine? Any thoughts?
