Marc, brendan, and I are all driving around with cars with "current"
Audi side markers mounted on the fenders behind the front wheels. These
are the side marker lenses as featured on the TT, etc. They run about
$15 or so each, and a harness with bulb holder and about 15' (!) of wire
is aobut $7.
You drill a 5/8" or so hole in the fender and cut off the locating
plastic on the lens. Glue in place or use #M strip-calk.
Wire then however pleases you, my 90Q has them set as parking lights
that flash with the signals as well.
This works well, is pretty sock looking, and they are actual Audi parts,
which is nice.
I believe from looking at my 90's H1/H4 lens though, that some of the
little city light bulb's light is directed to the side of the lens, so
it may not be such an issue - I just like my cars to be visible from the
side.
