4kq overheat problem

I had a similar problem w/ my '85 4kq last winter.
Symptom was random overheating.  Fan did seem to run
when shorting the temp sensor.  Everything seemed to
check out OK so I was thinking it might be the head
gasket.  Next time it started overheating, I popped
the hood and spun the fan blade- fan kicked on
immediately.  Seems the actual fan motor was
intermittent- hence the random overheating.  Installed
a used fan and no more problems- well no overheating
problems ;)
