200 Turbo Quattro oil leak condition

Hey all,
    I'm a proud newer owner of an 89' 200 Turbo Quattro 10V. I love the car 
as it only has 35,000 original miles but recently I have been plagued with a 
dreaded oil leak condition. From what it seems, It looks like the oil leak is 
emminating from either the crank  seal or oil pump. I have talked to a colleague 
regarding the Oil pump being the culprit and he then states that the oil pump 
would seriously be noticed in both pressure and performance if that item was 
faulty there for I rule that out. Could this be the crank seal?? I have 
replace the crank seal but when I installed it I didn't use the seal install tool. I 
just installed the seal best as possible, Does it need to be installed with 
the seal press?? Please help. Other than that my car is wonderful.. I need your 
help!!!
