don't do 1 you WILL be doing it very shortly. I did
both at the same time, although I will admit that with
the small mounting bolt in place of the roll pin the
slave is a piece of cake. It was MUCH easier than the
master. As for cost, my parts were for an '89 200q.
The slave (8D0 721 257) cost $38.00 and the master
(4A0 721 401) cost $47.00. These were from Import
Parts Specialists Inc. in Boise, ID (1-800-897-7278).
The parts are cast iron bodied and are made in
Ebern,Germany by FTE Automotive, a subsidiary of FAG
(the bearing people) who are now apparently owned by
Dana Corp. Anyway, they have a good pedigree as far
as I'm concerned, the price was definitely right and
they have performed flawlessly since installed. I
have NO affiliations with any of the companies other
than as a satisfied customer, and your experiences and
costs may vary.
