CGT), which is the amount of comparatively inexpensive bolt-on performance
gear (both from the aftermarket and also from later factory updates)
available for the VW 4-cylinder engine. Big valves, high-compression
pistons, camshafts of all descriptions, and the like are readily available
for the VW four, and cheap to boot. The biggest problem would appear to be
exhaust, as all the bolt-in downpipes I see advertised assume the transverse
engine layout of the Golf/Rabbit and Scirocco. Still, it shouldn't be that
difficult or expensive to have a good exhaust shop fabricate, or modify, a
downpipe to fit between the VW manifold of choice and the rest of the
downstream Audi system.
Anyway, Robert, I hope that clears up any confusion about the 4E. It should
be a great car, especially for long-distance highway jaunts where you can
reap the benefits of the tall 5th gear.
