12V V6 Quattro Cars

We're going to purchase a second Quattro in my family. 

Our price point puts us squarely into the 12V V6 cars such as the late 80/90
and the previous generation A6.

I wanted to get some opinion about what you guys thought about the 12V V6.
Are there years to avoid or opt for in the most recent 80/90 and the A6
series.

Any feedback and/or a web link that discussed such stuff would be greatly
appreciated.
