fluctuating Pentosin level

For one thing, the return line from the resovoir is old and leaking slowly, any ideas/tips on replacing?  But also, when i turn on the car,  the fluid level drops about 3/4 of an inch.  of course the problem here is that if it has leaked enough the brake warning light comes on 2-3 minutes after the engine is turned on.  wondering if youall have had that same problem(the fluctuation i mean) tia, Luke '86 5kcstq
