1982 5Ks Start Up Problem

Tom - I replaced the springs in the warm-up regulator on my
1983 5KT (back about 8 years ago) when I had a start/not run
long problem.  You mention having a Haynes manual - I have
Haynes # 428 - 1977 thru 1983 5000 131cu. in (2144cc).  Page
100, item # 11 is the warm up reg.  Pg. 101, para. 13-13,-14,-15
give an operaton description.  Pg. 103, para. 20-1,-2,-3 and
pg.104 fig. 20.2 give testing of the warm up reg.  In short, the
regulator, controlled by an electric signal applied to a bi-metalic
strip, allows lowered fuel pressure to the control plunger of
the fuel regulator during warm up.  This reduced pressure
causes the air flow plate to rise higher than normal, making
the mixture richer.
