Noises - please help

I would really appreciate diagnostic input on the following noises from my '91
CQ (84k miles):

Noise #1: A howling noise that appears to be coming from the brakes when I
initially apply the brake pedal.

Noise #2: Only on cold mornings, a squealing noise coming from the passenger
side of the dash. Not speed dependent. Not eliminated by shutting off the
climate control unit. I am thinking it may be the temp sensor on the dash.
What else can it be?
