I just replaced the struts in my '85 4000q with new Boge units, and
replaced the springs with H&R sport springs. The original 18+ year old
springs must have sagged a bit, because the ride height looked about the
same before and after. The H&R's were supposed to lower the car one
inch.
I'm very pleased with the results! It no longer feels saggy 'n' soggy.
It feels very firm and sporty - but not too harsh for everyday city
driving. In addition to the new firm sporty feel, the steering response
is *greatly* improved - this I think is the most notable improvement.
Near my home, there's a seldom used highway exit that is a fairly tight
turn of about 270 degrees. I, on occasion, enjoy seeing how fast I can
go through this particular turn. Before the new struts/springs it was
about 43-44 mph. Now it's 52-53 mph. In addition, the steering
response is *greatly* improved (did I mention that already?).
I highly recommend this setup! Just my 2 cents...
