Tranny problems?

I had the exact same problem on my 90 200tq and if they are the same you
suspect correctly. On mine a linkage clamp had worked itself loose. On
the 200tq the linkage is difficult to get to. I had to take mine into a
professional, and $70 later I had a new linkage clamp installed,
adjusted, and tightened. If you remove the boot, and loosen the two
adjustment bolts that allow the shifter assembly to shift left or right,
you can work the shifter into 1st and 2nd, you still have to really work
at it. I was able to hobble mine into the shop like this....good luck
to you, let us know what you found out.
