and protects better than mutli-grade oils, and that the benefits justify
the premium of the synthetic oil. (I also do all my own oil changes as
they rape you for the synthetic oils at most shops). For example, I ran
my '81 VW Jetta race car for an entire season (27 races averaging 15-20
laps of a 1/3 mile oval, plus practice sessions in between) with the
same 5w50 Motomaster (Canadian Tire brand) synthetic oil with only a
slight change in color and without ever needing to add any. Keep in mind
that every engine is different and results may vary depending on a
number of parameters.

The bottom line is that synthetic oils break down slower and perform
(protect) to the best of any oil's capabilities. Also the viscosity
("thickness") of an oil has nothing to do with whether it is synthetic
or not. I hope that this clears up some of the confusion and please
explain this to others that do not understand it - especially those
using 20w50 oil in their engines in the middle of winter.
