hydraulic pump that engages into the flywheel with a set of tangs. If the
tranny is bolted up without properly fitting the tangs into the flywheel,
they shear off - no hydraulic pressure = no drive. The fix is a new tranny,
although I do recall one lister found a source of ZF pumps somewhere and
replaced the pump only.
Hope this isn't your problem, and as I say - this is a recollection based on
a thread several years ago. You might find something on it in the archives.

Subject: V8 auto won't go in gear
Further to my ex car which seems to be in the wrong shop. They finally
found why they couldn't start the car after replacing the timing belt.
Naturally they did not use the retaining plates and managed to broke a
reference pin on the flywheel.
To get it replaced, they pulled the tranny back to get to the flywheel.
Now the car starts, but wont go into gear. They think the tranny pump is
malfunctioning. I think that is retarded and they probably screwed
something else up in the process of moving the tranny.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Zsolt
