This is a bit off topic, but I can't think of any other place to ask. You
guys are the most technically astute group of Audi folks I know...

I need to find an Internet group (bulletin board, mailing list, whatever,)
of folks who REALLY know Audis at a very low level. I have some technical
questions and problems I'd like answered, and places like AudiWorld just
aren't going to cut it.

Nothing compared to the live grenade a friend found behind the tailight
of an old Mercedes he was working on a while back. Bomb squad came and
removed it for him, they figured the thing had been in there since WWII
before the car was brought stateside after the war.

Awesome numbers... and backed up by a nice graph... but I think you got
the color backwards. The 9/3 run was the higher one, the blue one,
wasn't it?

PS, saw "Fast and Furious" a couple of days ago, I think of you 'cause
you're out West... what an awful film...

Well, the yellow Audi was FINALLY out in all it's
glory tonight, all 3320 lbs of it, plus the bike rack.

My best time was 14.116 @100.45 mph. That was with a
crappy 2.129 60 ft time, on half 91, half 104 gas. My
best run at 15 psi boost, on 91 pump gas and water
injection was 14.133 @ 97.52 mph. Which was also my
best launch with a 0-60 time of 1.980.

13's are really close, just not tonight, couldn't get
my launches down. Oh well, after looking at the data
logs, I need to lean the mixture quite a bit, and I
probably had room for more advance with the race gas.
The car was chugging in 4th at high rpms pretty bad.
Plus I think I'll loose the bike rack, but it was
worth the conversation. "Man, you have the biggest
FMIC here, and I like the rack"

I also got to meat Peter Golledge and see the LT1Q,
cool car!

All in all a very fun night. I can see how this can be
addictive though. BTW. Race gas kicks ass, I wish I
would have had the launches down because the car is
much, much faster with half 104 in it.

Later!

Hey Huw, thanks, ya, fun stuff.

Huh, odd, I've got 2 graphs with opposite colors, yes, you're correct, I'll
have to change that, the other graph in front of me has the colors swapped.

Fast and the Furious? Ya, you know that scene when he's drag racing, and
his
floor boards fly off cause he's going so fast, and then his programmable EFI
system starts blinking "WARNING, OVERLOAD" on the screen..sigh...we need to
add that feature to 034efi, howz this for a sales pitch - "ALL NEW FEATURE:
Will
blow your frickin' floor boards off, then warn you about it!!"

and all I'm thinking is, 140 mph on the *street* and you're gonna look
over at a laptop and slam it shut?

Also, there is no way on earth that a little 4 cyl car is gonna keep up
with that supercharged detroit iron later in the film. No way...

What it coulda used was some 5 cyl engine sounds :) Where were you?

Jim, buddy, great stuff, 14.1 is a great run for your first time out, good
trap speed too for a 14.1, car musta been pulling pretty hard. What was
your
boost for that run? What was ambient temp? I assume pretty low from your
trap
speed, in comparison I had a 103mph trap for a 13.2, but it was also 95d
outside, the heat really starts sapping power down the last half of the run.

Yes, the 104 could have afforded you a bunch of advance, typically I see
about 5d of advance with half 100, and as we've talked, anything above 17
for me
requries half 100 or it just won't make power due to excessive retard.

Again, great to see you out there.

so true...

:-)

oh, sorry, I stand corrected on that. Still, anything that can be done
to one engine can be done to another... and the bigger one will probably
have an advantage, in drag racing.

Now, what exactly is a "dyno queen"? Someone who hangs around car
testing garages drinking creme de menthe?

Friggin drag racing. F111A's always win... or Saturn V's, if you have
one handy, and are willing to stretch things out over more than a
quarter mile (their short trap speeds are terrible!)
