well yesterday i took a trip north to the rally of the tall pines.
i expected a great day and that is exactly what i got.
frank sprongl, who im sure most people on the list know, dominated
winning the rally by about 6-7 mins in his mitsubishi evo 6.
if you dont know frank sprongl shame on you:
(these stats are all in an audi s2 approx 500hp 10vt w/ aluminum block)
-Six Canadian and four North American rally championships (and numerous related titles)
-Earned Audi several manufacturers titles in the U.S. and Canada
-Built the longest winning streak in recent memory in the sport
The box score:
-6 Canadian Rally Championship titles
-8 Canadian Rally Open Class Championship titles
-4 North American Rally Cup titles
-3 North American Rally Cup Open Class titles
-50 National and International Victories
-1998 season that included 6 wins in 7 starts in the Canadian series
-1999 season that included 6 wins in 7 starts in the Canadian series
-Victory and new course record at the SCCA Audi/Mt. Washington Hillclimb in New Hampshire (1998)
-Domination of the SCCA PRO Rally round in Pennsylvania (1998)
-Victory in the FIA-sanctioned Ramada Express Casino & Hotel (1998) International Rally in Nevada
-1997 season that included winning the Canadian and North American championships, two wins in three starts in the SCCA PRO Rally Series in the U.S.
anyhow... one again he was wearing his audi jacket, in his audi driving suit in his evo :)
i got to see dave hord's car and more importantly hear his exhaust...
i liked... his rally dash is very nice... as is his new rally paint job.
his exhaust sounded... it sounded quite and pleasant but still had a very mean edge.
i think it would sound amazing on a turbo car. nothing too excessive, nice noise levels
and a very good sound.
dave: you should put the muffler on a turbo car and record it and put it on the web.
two audi's competed. a 1988 audi 90tq10v 034efi, custom looking intercooler and radiator...
javad if you have pictures or more info on this car id appreciate it. the car was in 80's audi factory colours.
there was also a 4kq (not sure of the year or engine but im sure it was turbo'd due to the grill sticking out
an extra 3 inches. it was sporting christmas colours in bright neon red and green... the 90 seemed to have
quit due to a dead clutch and im not sure about the 4kq.
there seemed to be less audi spectator cars this year... i was rather dissappointed.
audi is crazy to think that rallying wouldnt affect sales; there were probably about 100 subaru wrxs at the
rally x $35 000 + about 50 other subarus at roughly $30 000 150 000... = $5 000 000 worth of subaru's
attending a single race. a very large portion of the wrxs were 2004. at least half. there were so many wrxs
that in the parking lot of a 10 000 people event, the 3 cars me and my friends came in were all parked
beside blue 2004 wrx's (and we all arrived at different times) :)
audi is crazy to scoff at this market. mitsubishi seems to have caught on and im sure we will see way more
lancer's in north america in the near future.
well my hands are tired now... so thats it :)
