Jim, in my new 2.3 10v that I built, I used some high temp exh. valves designed for turbo charging, the sodium valves are a compromise, while they can stay cooler, they are weaker due to the missing material. I'd say at a minimun, use new ones, the ones in my motor were of an unknown origin (used) cause I wanted to save some cash. But at the $40 each price new, you could easily have some new aftermarket ones made for $20-30 each, try contacting Ferrera, they make just the valve you need.
