You can always get an adjustable cam gear, sold as an 8V 1.8 Golf
application.

When rebuilding the 5000 turbo I-5 motor, what is the consensus on having to
replace the cam and crank gears? There doesn't seem to be much of any wear
on mine, and since they're metal and the belt is rubber, it doesn't seem
like much wear would ever occur. Then again maybe it's one of those have to
replace items... Thanks for the tip.
