ecs light and loss of power

Stephen,

Use up the entire tank of gas before putting in a gallon or two of
premium. Run that through the engine, and then fill up with premium.
That procedure should leave you with good gas.

Disconnect the battery for at least 5 minutes to reset all codes.
Remember to collect radio codes if any before disconnecting the battery.

Use only the Audi recommended spark plugs. Do not use Platinum plugs.

Subject: ecs light and loss of power

Hello,

Can anyone offer advice for an '88 80q that has
considerably decreased power at all speeds and has an
illuminated 'check engine/ecs' light. My wife and I
bought the car recently and noticed no problems.
However, we put a tank of regular unleaded into it
instead of the mid grade we had been using and a day
later the symptoms described above began occurring.

I read in the manual that a poor tank of gas could
elicit this kind of response; any other ideas for what
could be the matter?

Thanks.
Stephen
