It doesn't pick much up when the car's moving - there is significant airflow between the
manifolds.

The worst possible thing to do is place insulating foil between them.  The worst case of
exhaust mainfold cracking I have ever seen was on a car where the owner was very proud of
having got some jet tailpipe insulation and wedged it between the manifolds.

Badly installed dump valves also block this airflow.
